AbitibiBowater named leading forest products company in Climate Disclosure Leadership Index

    MONTREAL, Nov. 5 /CNW Telbec/ - AbitibiBowater has been ranked the
leading forest products company in Canada in the 2008 Climate Disclosure
Leadership Index, with respect to disclosure of carbon emissions.
AbitibiBowater is included in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) report,
which lists top companies demonstrating best-in-class disclosure practices in
climate change strategy as well as reporting of greenhouse gas emissions. In
the CDP's sixth annual report, AbitibiBowater came in fourth overall among
Canadian high-carbon impact sector companies.

    Since 1990, AbitibiBowater has reduced by 51 percent its absolute carbon
emissions in Canada. The Company is implementing several initiatives to
effectively reduce emissions, including:- Implementing energy-efficient technologies such as increasing the use
      of biomass fuels and reducing water usage;
    - Developing innovative, environmentally-friendly products and increasing
      the use of recycled fiber;
    - Adopting harvesting practices to improve conservation and sustainable
      forest management; and
    - Maximizing rail transportation for sustainable delivery of products as
      an alternative to highway use.The CDP represents 385 institutional investors, with a combined asset
base of $57 trillion. On their behalf, the CDP compiles information from the
world's largest companies on the business risks and opportunities presented by
climate change and greenhouse gas emissions.
